9th May 2011
Livinghealth Clinic were worthy recipients recently of the “Biomnis Healthcare Innovation Award” in the category for Primary Care Centres initiatives. Livinghealth Clinic was chosen from seven finalists. The Biomnis Healthcare Innovation Awards endeavours to recognise and merit innovation in the provision of Healthcare. This is the fourth year of these awards which have been established to broaden awareness of the need to constantly improve standards of care and patient safety in Irish Healthcare. This award is real recognition of what the Living Health Clinic has achieved since opening in November 2008.
Livinghealth Clinic has been at the forefront of innovation in primary care service delivery to its patients since it became the first advance Primary Care Centre in Ireland. Now open for two and a half years this Primary Care Centre has been the first to introduce many new services and also has the greatest number of services available in a community based primary care centre.
Mr. Frank Doheny, General Manager said “All of us here at Livinghealth Clinic are justifiably proud of this award as it endorses us as Ireland’s leading Primary Care Clinic. The award was granted to us in recognition of the many community initiatives we have supported and in particular our most recent collaboration with the Department of Epidemiology UCC.
This Heart Disease and Diabetes study saw just over 2,000 members of the local community receive free screening. The main aim of the study is to check people between the ages of 50 and 69 for diabetes, high blood pressure and for other heart disease risk factors which are very common in our community and often undetected.
The award was presented to Dr. Tom O’Callaghan and Prof. Ivan Perry UCC by Ms Roisin Shortall T.D Minister for State with responsibility for Primary Care.
