Conference Roundup: Climate Change and Health – The Challenges and the Opportunities

Climate Change and Health: The Challenges and the Opportunities took place at NUI Galway’s Institute for Lifecourse and Society on Friday 22nd September 2017.

Over 80 people from diverse backgrounds attended the conference on the day, which featured expert speakers Dr. Nicholas Watts (Executive Director of the Lancet Countdown), Joni Pegram (Senior Climate Change Policy and Advocacy Advisor at UNICEF UK), John O’Neill (Principal Officer, Dept of Communications, Climate Action, and Environment), Dr. Ina Kelly (Consultant in Public Health Medicine at the HSE), and Dr. Jonathan Derham (Head of Climate, Research and Resource Use Programme at the Environmental Protection Agency).

The conference was co-hosted by NUI Galway, the Ryan Institute, Trocaire, DSA Ireland, the Irish Forum for Global Health, the Irish Forum for International Agricultural Development, the HSE, Cultivate, Galway City Community Network, and Galway City Green Leaf, supported by Irish Aid.
