Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

November 13, 2013

Today marks the last day of the Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health in Recife, Brazil. Organised by the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) – and under the patronage of the Government of Brazil, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) – it is an event which brings together the experts, advocates and policy makers in the health workforce field.

This year’s theme: ‘Human Resources for Health: foundation for Universal Health Coverage and the post-2015 development agenda’, seeks to place a focus on the issue of health in the future, creating a framework to identify and prioritise health areas.

The forum seeks to reposition human resources for health (HRH) issues in the context of the post-2015 development agenda and the political endorsement of universal health coverage (UHC). The global community is invited to take stock of the progress that has already been achieved in these areas, and encourage the platform for creating and sharing innovative HRH solutions for UHC. It also aims to generate a political will to implement national and global HRH commitments moving forward to universal health coverage.

Expected Outcomes include:

  • New commitments from governments, donors, development partners, private sector, civil society and other key HRH stakeholders
  • Greater accountability to track, monitor and report on commitments
  • Clearer links established between the HRH agenda and the remaining MDG years, universal health coverage, social determinants of health, Rio+20 process and the post-2015 development agenda.

Publications being launched at the conference include:
