Who We Are

National SOT Coordinators

Eunice Phillip

As a global health researcher, I am passionate about participatory research approaches that place communities at the heart of solutions. Using participatory qualitative methods and community-based participatory research (CBPR), my work spans addressing household and ambient air pollution in rural Malawi, where I partner with communities to understand and mitigate environmental health risks, to exploring how poverty, farming challenges, and poor harvests shape mental health and wellbeing. In Ireland, I collaborate with disadvantaged communities to examine the social determinants of health and co-create responses that address inequities in ways that reflect lived realities.

Central to this work is a strong emphasis on community capacity building, ensuring that local knowledge, strengths, and leadership drive sustainable solutions.

This commitment to equity-focused, community-led research has been recognised through several awards, including the Jacqueline Hogan Bronze Medal in Public Health and Epidemiology and multiple engaged research awards. My professional background in Nursing spans emergency care, TB/HIV programmes, childhood immunisation, and community outreach initiatives such as the WHO’s Kick Polio Out of Africa campaign in Nigeria.

Currently, I serve on the board of the Irish Global Health Network, where I also act as National Student Outreach Coordinator to ensure youth and student voices shape global health policy. I sit on the board of STAND, leading the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion unit, and chair the THRIVE AFRICA Network board. Collectively, these organisations provide platforms to enhance my vision and advocacy work of reducing inequalities and advancing social justice.

My vision is to increase engagement and participation in global health, ensuring that the voices of those most often left behind are at the forefront of solutions. Deeply committed to mentorship and collaboration, I believe in infusing #HumanityInResearch through the philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because you are.”
