Job description (part-time 60%)

The Events & Communications Coordinator will provide broad support for the Irish Forum for Global Health (IFGH) communications, assist with specific communications for the ESTHER Programme and be the main focal point for all events.

The IFGH is an independent network of people who are concerned with issues that impact on the health and development of populations at a global level, but with a particular commitment to populations in low-income countries.

The European ESTHER Alliance is a network of Governments working in synergy to mobilize health expertise and partnerships to contribute to the global health agenda in low-income countries. The ESTHER Alliance is involved in a wide range of global health priorities, notably HIV/AIDS and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, with the main goal to strengthen health systems and improve the quality of service delivery. Ireland joined the ESTHER Alliance in 2011.

The Communications & Events Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high quality, regular communications on global health to and from members as well as planning, running and evaluating events. The Communications & Event Coordinator also provides support to the Operations Director in the implementation of work of the IFGH Secretariat.

This position is based in Dublin, Ireland. Some remote working is possible, but the successful candidate will be expected to spend at least one day per week working in-office with the IFGH Secretariat.

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Maintain overall IFGH and ESTHER Ireland communications strategy and outputs, in conjunction with the Operations Director.
  2. Manage and create content for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites, and social media channels.
  3. Plan, organise, host, evaluate and document IFGH and ESTHER Ireland conferences, seminars, learning and training events.
  4. Support the Student Outreach Group as required.
  5. Manage ongoing ‘Global Health Writes’ Programme.
  6. Manage & report on all communications and events related activities.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Maintain overall IFGH and ESTHER Ireland communications strategy and outputs, in conjunction with the Operations Director:
    • Produce yearly communications strategy, including main theme for the year, calendar of events and advocacy hooks, targets and outputs.
  2. Manage and create content for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites, and social media channels
  • Manage IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites and social media presence
  • Ensure active IFGH Twitter, Facebook
  • Produce Global Health Matters newsletter (4 per year)
  • Maintain up-to-date IFGH & ESTHER websites
  • Create and source content and articles for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites.
  • Maintain regular eForum postings and regular Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin posts weekly
  • Producing a monthly communication report
  • Produce various official publications as needed
  1. Plan, organise, host, evaluate and document IFGH and ESTHER Ireland conferences, seminars, learning and training events.
  • Coordinate and organise IFGH-related events including event design, working with partners, marketing & publicity, logistics and communications
  • Ensure every event is evaluated and recorded
  • Document each event (written articles, photo, video etc.) and ensure content is widely distributed via websites and social media channels
  1. Support the Student Outreach Group (SOG) as required
  • Liaise with SOG Chair and SOG group to provide support for campus groups, events, campaigns, debates etc.
  1. Manage ongoing ‘Global Health Writes’ Programme
  • Facilitate two workshops each year and attendance of GHWriters at IFGH/ESTHER events throughout the year
  1. Manage & report events and communications related activities
  • Maintain M&E framework: update & report monthly working closely with Finance & Administrative Officer
  • Contribute to management reporting (monthly and yearly)
  • Day-to-day management of Professional Interns.

 

Skills required

  • Strong understanding, confidence and interest in online platforms (Mailchimp, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, Flicker, etc)

  • Ability to maintain, update and manage content on web platforms

  • Good understanding of global health issues

  • Evidence of policy/advocacy skills and interest

  • Excellent computer skills (ability to use advanced features of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher)

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to be pro-active and be able to work effectively alone

  • Event management experience

  • Strong organization and administrative skills

 

Terms and conditions

Salary level: 29,000 – 42,000 Euro p/a depending on experience (pro-rata @60% time)

Contract until 31 December 2018
