Irish Forum for Global Health and ESTHER Programme Secretariat Job description (part-time 60%)

 

The Communications & Events Coordinator will provide broad support for the Irish Forum for Global Health (IFGH) communications, assist with specific communications for the ESTHER Programme and be the main focal point for all events.

The Communications & Events Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high quality, regular communications on global health, as well as planning, running and evaluating events. The Communications & Event Coordinator also provides support to the Operations Director in the implementation of the responsibilities of the IFGH Secretariat.

The IFGH is an independent network of people concerned with the health and development of populations at a global level, with a particular commitment to populations in low-income countries. Established in 2004, the IFGH welcomes individuals and groups interested in promoting global health-related education, research, policy and advocacy. We offer our members opportunities for learning and collaboration through events and conferences, and we work to create and strengthen both national and international links with the global health community.

ESTHER Ireland is a joint HSE-Irish Aid health development cooperation initiative and has been a part of the ESTHER Alliance for Global Health Partnerships (EA) since 2012. ESTHER Ireland uses the twinning model to foster effective north-south and south-south partnerships between Ireland and a number of countries in Africa and Asia. Since 2018, ESTHER Ireland has been managed under the HSE Global Health Programme, with the support of the Irish Forum for Global Health. ESTHER Ireland works closely with its partners in Europe, the UK and the WHO.

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and implementing innovative communications strategies for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland
  2. Managing and creating content for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites and social media channels
  3. Planning, organising, documenting and evaluating IFGH and ESTHER Ireland events
  4. Supporting Student Outreach Group as required
  5. Managing ‘Global Health Writes’ programme
  6. Reporting communication targets and IFGH & Esther Ireland activities

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and implementing innovative communications strategies for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland
  • Manage IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites and develop IFGH social media presence.
  • Communicate regularly with IFGH members through weekly IFGH Update newsletter, and a regular ESTHER Partnership Panorama newsletter
  • Maintain IFGH, ESTHER Ireland, and Father Michael Kelly Zambia websites, updating as necessary
  • Integrate annual theme into content outputs, advocacy, targets and calendar of events
  1. Managing and creating content for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites and social media channels.
  • Create and source content and articles for IFGH and ESTHER Ireland websites
  • Produce and design various official publications as needed
  • Develop graphics, posters and other images, in keeping with IFGH branding
  1. Planning, organising, documenting and evaluating IFGH and ESTHER Ireland events.
  • Coordinate and organise IFGH-related events from planning to post-event stage, including event design and branding, liaising with partners, communications & publicity, and logistics
  • Ensure every event is evaluated, and produce a post-event report
  • Produce content for each event (written articles, photo, video etc.) and ensure content is widely distributed via websites and social media channels
  • Liaise with and coordinate external media to gain coverage of events
  1. Supporting Student Outreach Group as required.
  • Liaise with SOG Chair and SOG group to provide support for events, campaigns, debates etc.
  1. Managing ‘Global Health Writes’ Programme
  • Facilitate training workshops of Global Health Writers at IFGH/ESTHER events throughout the year
  • Edit articles as necessary for posting online and publicise via social media and newsletters
  • Produce yearly Finger on the Pulse publication with articles from previous year
  1. Reporting communication outputs and IFGH & Esther Ireland activities
  • Maintain M&E framework: Update monthly with Finance Officer and interns
  • Produce regular update presentations for all board and management meetings, in addition to an annual, year-end report
  • Provide day-to-day support and management of Professional Interns

 

Skills required

  • Strong understanding of online platforms (WordPress, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Good Content Management Skills
  • Track record with event management
  • Strong grasp of global health issues
  • Good policy/advocacy skills and interest
  • Excellent computer skills (including Microsoft Office and image editing programmes)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be pro-active and to work as part of a small team as well as on own initiative
  • Strong organisation and administration skills

This position is for three days per week (60% time), contract until 31 December 2019.

 

Terms and conditions

Salary level: 29,000 – 42,000 Euro p/a depending on experience (pro-rata @60% time)
Contract until 31 December 2019
