	<strong>Call for Contributions &ndash; <span data-scayt_word="3rd" data-scaytid="1">3<sup>rd</sup></span> Annual <span data-scayt_word="DSAI" data-scaytid="2">DSAI</span> Postgraduate Research Workshop June 13-14, 2013</strong></h3><br>
<p><br>
	Now in its third year (see timeline below), the Development Studies Association of Ireland (<span data-scayt_word="DSAI" data-scaytid="3">DSAI</span>), with support from the <span data-scayt_word="UCD" data-scaytid="4">UCD</span> School of Social Justice, is pleased to announce the annual two day postgraduate research workshop to be held in University College Dublin, June 13-14, 2013. This workshop aims to provide a friendly environment in which postgraduate students can present their research, develop contacts with other researchers and openly discuss and learn from each others&rsquo; experiences.</p><br>
<p><br>
	The <a href="/uploads/files/DSAI_PGWorkshop_CallforContributions2013.pdf">workshop</a> is aimed at supporting research students working in the broad field of development studies. This might include issues of equality, human rights, migrants&rsquo; rights, health, trade, food security or conflict, highlighting the interconnections between these and other issues across local, regional and global contexts.</p><br>
<p><br>
	The workshop aims to provide an accommodating venue for current and recently finished postgraduate students, with participants coming together around shared interests, challenges and experiences of doing research. Researchers at the early to late stages of their projects will be able to benefit from engaging with peers and more experienced researchers, while people starting out or thinking of starting a postgraduate research project are equally welcome to apply.</p><br>
<p><br>
	Applications are invited from students at all stages of their postgraduate research, as well as those thinking of starting or who have recently finished studies. More specific details on the aims, objectives, and activities of the workshop are included in the application form, <a href="http://www.dsaireland.org/node/65#overlay-context=&amp;overlay=node/65/edit">which can be downloaded from here</a>. More detailed information will be sent to participants once applications and expressions of interest have been received. The deadline for applications is 10 May 2013, though earlier submissions are encouraged.</p><br>

	Building on the success of last year&#39;s development debate, the&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="IFGH" data-scaytid="1">IFGH</span>&nbsp;is delighted to announce a new debating competition, the Making Time National Global Health Debate. This competition, with generous sponsorship from the Making Time Foundation, will see students from all four provinces of Ireland participate in debates on critical topics in global health and development.</p>

	Nobel Laureate&nbsp;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_zur_Hausen"><span data-scayt_word="Harald" data-scaytid="3">Harald</span>&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="zur" data-scaytid="4">zur</span>&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="Hausen" data-scaytid="5">Hausen</span></a>&nbsp;will chair the Making Time National Global Health Debate. The topic of the debate will be &#39;<cite>This house believes medical aid should&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="prioritise" data-scaytid="6">prioritise</span>&nbsp;equity of access above outcome</cite>.&#39;</p>

	The final will include participants from&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="Leinster" data-scaytid="24">Leinster</span>, Munster,&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="Connacht" data-scaytid="25">Connacht</span>&nbsp;and Ulster competing against each other and the winner will receive an 800&euro; voucher in order to attend a conference in Europe over the summer.</p>
<p>
	Refreshments will be served starting at 7:00 pm, and the debate will begin at 7:45. A reception will be held after the debate, and will include beer, wine and&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="canapes" data-scaytid="27">canapes</span>.</p>

	The&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="Leinster" data-scaytid="26">Leinster</span>&nbsp;Heat was held on&nbsp;<strong>March&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="19th" data-scaytid="29">19<sup>th</sup></span></strong>&nbsp;at Trinity College Dublin</h4>
<p>
	The motion for this event was &#39;<cite><em>This house believes big&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="pharma" data-scaytid="30">pharma</span>&nbsp;and the biomedical paradigm are failing the world&#39;s poor</em>.&#39;</cite></p>
<p>
	Participants came from Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="Kimmage" data-scaytid="35">Kimmage</span>&nbsp;Development Studies Centre. Two participants from&nbsp;<span data-scayt_word="TCD's" data-scaytid="36">TCD&#39;s</span>&nbsp;Historical Society won the day&#39;s debate and will be participating in the&nbsp;National Final.</p>
